  2. I actually rebooted my account using the link Prof sent us in the email. Free 10 day trial. It's exlusively for academic reasons and I'M NOT GOING TO PLAY.

That's what I keep telling myself.

  3. Back in the heyday, almost eight years ago, I was in 7th grade. That was the year World of Warcraft was released, and I was extremely excited to get my hands on a game that continued the storyline from Warcraft III, a real time strategy game I had played when I was even younger. There was so much to do in WoW; you really felt like you were immersed in the world. However, after about 8 months, I quit. It was no longer worth the $15/month fee. I didn't even reach max level (60 at the time, soon to be 90). There was just too much grinding; after a certain point, it took hours and hours and hours just to get to the next level. I was level 53.

A good game design decision on Blizzard's part was to greatly facilitate this process as they released new expansion packs. Subscriber count increased dramatically over the years partially due to the influx of the so-called casual gamer, the audience to which Blizzard needed to cater in order to maintain and grow interest. WoW required less and less experience to level up, and quests gave more and more experience. Still, in the years following my departure from Blizzard, I played on private servers for free; I got to jump straight to max level, right into the PvP (player vs. player), where I was able to absolutely destroy other players on the basis of sheer skill alone.
